Make It Count: Wedding Edition

Updated: Sep 16, 2022

Did you know the average couple spends between 50 and 100 thousand dollars for their wedding?

The Budget...

For some, figuring out a wedding budget can be a daunting task, but when it comes down to such a special celebration, there are some costs you don’t want to skim out on.

But in these ever-changing times, you want to make sure you can have your cake and eat it, too, literally.

(We couldn't help ourselves lol)

So, if you’re in the early stages of wedding planning, we’re here to help you out and give you the inside scoop on how most couples spend for their special day. We’ve conducted our own research for this article and surveyed around 600 people locally to give you the best information possible.

Story Time:

The wonderful couple above brought our team of photographers and videographers out to Nantucket for an intimate wedding with their family during the week this past August. Most of their family was from around the world and flew in for this very special occasion. While on site, our team became as much a part of the wedding as we were capturing it. We helped walked the couple through their entire day and got to know each member of their family and their love story that brought everyone together. It is one of the luxuries that bring the small, intimate weddings to the forefront when working with our couples.

It was a perfect example of what our survey later found out. The couple decided to prioritize their money on the capturing of the moment and bringing people together, instead of a showcase. Don't get us wrong, we love the spectacles that show off the magnificent occasions but nothing feels so real like the love between two individuals and their families coming together.

Back to the stats!

For Your Vendors:

If you’re familiar with weddings, you have a pretty good idea of what goes into the event. But many couples fail to realize just how many choices are out there when it comes to selecting vendors for their wedding.

So, when it comes down to the most popular factors, our survey confirmed that the top 3 vendors used for weddings are Photographers, Makeup Artists, and Videographers. *Crazy, we know... but I would say this came from a bit of COVID hangover and the current state of the economy. Couples felt it was best to remember the day and have it captured because so many couldn't make it over the past two years.

For photography, around 30% spend anywhere between $1,500 and $3,000 on making sure they have solid memories to last them a lifetime. Since this is typically the most important part of a wedding, it’s safe to say it’s worth the money, but only if it’s done right. Around 50% of individuals claim that they had a positive experience from their photography and videographer services so it’s critical to choose wisely.

For Your Venues:

These days, there’s not a lot of extra money to spend on lavish venues, and good luck if you didn’t book ahead of time for your fairytale location.

Depending on the place and how many people the space can hold, a venue is usually where the bulk of the money is spent on weddings. For some couples, a venue can cost up to $5,000, which is average but keep in mind this varies based on the number of guests. If you have a larger wedding, expect to pay around double or even triple that amount to accommodate the event.

Wedding planning doesn’t have to be overwhelming and stressful when you have an idea of costs and what’s important for you and your partner. So it’s nice to know what the average wedding focuses on so you can make it count for your celebration.
