Saying I do: Vendors Edition

While it may seem daunting to say I do to your future spouse, it can be even more of a risk saying I do to vendors. Let's just say you can't swipe right or left just yet!

Especially when there’s a laundry list of to-dos before the big day, you want to be sure you find the right fit for your and your partner’s needs. We’ve surveyed over 600 people for their take on all things wedding, and we were surprised to find out their thoughts on vendors. For most couples, they began their vendor vetting process at least 3 to 6 months before their wedding. Let’s go through the red flags of hiring a vendor so you can make sure your money is going in the right places.

Before you say, I do, to your forever partner, practice by saying I do to vendors that you trust and can feel confident about before your walk down the aisle.

Red Flags

Too Booked and Busy: So, you’ve found the perfect vendor, and you love their services so much, but it looks like they’ve taken on way too much than they can handle. Do you really want them to add your wedding to their long list of responsibilities? Before you take the risk, it’s probably best to move on because there’s nothing worse than great services gone to waste because they were overbooked.

No Portfolio or Reviews: Everyone has to start somewhere, but unless you know them personally and can vouch for their work, it’s probably best you’re not their first rodeo. If they don’t have a list of reviews or a portfolio to show you, it’s possible that they wouldn’t be a good fit.

Green Flags

Great Communication and Professionalism: This is a very special day for you, and it’s important that you have a team of professionals who have your best interest at heart and can communicate accordingly. Our survey revealed that 60% of people communicated with their vendors via phone call and 42% did so via online chats. When you hire a team of professionals that are responsive, you’re able to relax and move on to other important factors for your wedding. This makes a huge difference and you’ll be so thankful for your decision.

Offers Samples or Test Runs: It’s important that you hire someone who aligns with your vision, and the best way to see this before hiring is by viewing their portfolio or doing a test run. For something as serious as a hairstyle or makeup choice, you can do a test run of looks to see if this would be a right fit for you. Better to test and move on than to wait until the day of the wedding and realize they don’t have the skills you thought they did.
